This Tuesday at MIUC we showcase a selection of the fine young
aleatoric talent nurtured by the sonically vigorous city we live in,
focussing on the pulchritudinous parlance borne of Melbourne's
long-standing post-jazz idiom. For the past year since last gracing the
Bar Open stage The Phonetic Orchestra have further
evolved their sonic possibilities through personnel progression, further
diasporic research and on this evening a special guest in Danish
percussionist Christian Windfeld. Windfeld will also
have a chance to improvise toe-to-toe with two of our most excellent
endemic audial-equilibrists-of-aleatory, double bassist and Phonetic
Orchestra director Jonathon Heilbron and dependable Make It Upper Reuben Lewis on trumpet. And Michaela Davies
presents her involuntary approach to extemporisation, whereupon
electric muscle stimulation will be applied to herself and Jonathon
Heilbron to invoke an externalised rampancy and challenge their
string-sonifying improvised intentionality.
