Robin Fox and Filipe Reynolds @OpenLAB April 13


 



OpenLAB 2pm Sunday the 13th of APRIL. This month we are back at the Media Lab Melbourne, 136A Cromwell St Collingwood, with a huge line up!!! Open LABs is here to share and explore the wonderful world of creative makers. Each talk allows artists, musicians, engineers, performers, and designers to come together and share their work and creative passions with the public and other creatives.

This months presenters are:
Robin Fox>>>>>> From oscilloscopes to lasers, and from dance to giant theremins, Robin Fox is a sonic and visual celebrity working across live performance, exhibitions, public art projects and dance. He also holds a PhD in composition from Monash University and an MA in musicology which documents the history of experimental music in Melbourne 1975-1979. His recent projects include designing and building a Giant Theremin for the City of Melbourne, a seven metre tall interactive musical sculpture; the White Beam project commissioned by Dark Mofo which shot a high powered white laser beam through the trees on Salamanca lawns; developing a hybrid sound/dance work A Small Prometheus with Stephanie Lake involving fire powered kinetic musical sculptures which had a sell-out seasonat the 2013 Melbourne International Arts Festival and sound/light design for Lee Serle’s SYNC at the Lyon Opera Ballet. A new work ‘Transducer’ for microphones, speakers and percussionists co-composed with Eugene Ughetti was recently premiered at Totally Huge New Music Festival in Perth.

Felipe Reynolds>>>> Felipe's experience and skills in the set design and costume world are phenomenal and mind blowing experiments with materiality, structure and form. He has worked internationally as a Set and Costume designer for Opera, Theatre, Dance and Television. He has also had fashion editorials in Tangent and Cause Celebre magazines. As well as designing Blue Chip and Community Events some career highlights are renovating the historic art deco El Rey Theatre in LA and resident designer at Tiroler Landes Theatre in Innsbruck Austria. For 7 years he worked as the designer of inflatable components for large scale animatronic creatures for Creature Technology Co. and Global Creatures. Developing and making puppets for such world acclaimed productions as Walking with Dinosaurs Arena Spectacular, How To Train Your Dragon Spectacular and the World Premier of King Kong the musical. Most recently he designed and made an articulated inflatable body for the Bear mascot for the Sochi Olympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies. His work can also be seen in Radio City Music Hall where he made a Lady Liberty Puppet for the Heart and Lights show to open 2015.
Felipe is a WAAPA graduate also is the Resident Artist at Ampersand Studio, Docklands.
