Shame File Music news - new releases/additions and massive CD sale.

Turntable At Dawn ltd edition CD launch + CD sale bonanza!

Shame File Music presents Clinton Green's (AKA Undecisive God) new limited edition CD 'Turntable At Dawn'. This unedited recording was made in Green's backyard in January 2012. His instrument was an 'acoustic turntable', where objects and percussive instruments are placed on the turntable platter to create chaotic rhythms, in this case attempting to integrate with the ambient sound in the backyard (both natural and industrial).

'Turntable At Dawn' is a limited edition of 30 numbered CDs. Each cover is unique, incorporating pressed flora and herbs from the recording location. The 30 unique copies will be available at the CD launch, and if any are remaining after that, from Shame File Music.

Green will perform solo on the night, along with a duo on prepared gramophone with Ernie Althoff.  Also featured will be a solo Althoff set, We Are Denizens Of Pluto, and Monolith.

Also on the night will be a Shame File Music CD/record sale extravaganza, with all the best of Australian experimental music releases, plus a massive new shipment from US labels including XI, Pogus and Deep Listening.  Artists include Phil Niblock, Pauline Oliveros, Deep Listening Band, Scott Smallwood, Tom Johnson, Alan Licht, Warren Burt (including his must-have “Animation of Lists...” double CD) and heaps more. There will be special prices on the night and very limited copies.

Recent additions to Shame File Music mailorder:

Ross Manning "Harmonious Angles" LP Manning's first solo LP is a joyous yet understatedly-intricate sonic outing created in real time via live playback of various recorders (HD, tape and MD) overlaid with live sound events, including field recordings and an assortment of Manning's own (often customised/handmade) instruments. Evocative of a less-manic Volvox in its strangeness, the soundworlds created here are intriguing and immensely satisfying.

BACK IN STOCK - Various Artists "Source Records 1-6: Music of the Avant Garde 1968-1971" 3CD Originally released on a series of 10" LPs from 1968 to 1971 by the new music journal Source, this series documents some of the most significant experimental music from largely US composers (plus New Zealand's Annea Lockwood) of the time. This series has been remastered and issued as a 3 CD set with booklet; a veritable time capsule from a time and place that was hotbed in the developing story of experimental music. Other composers include Robert Ashley, Alvin Lucier, Larry Austin and more.

Cockdriller CD - Lo-fi industrial noise peppered with the occasional processed pop culture sample. Includes a full live performance alongside shorter tracks.

Clinton Green 'Turntable At Dawn' CD launch - Conduit Arts - 5 Nov 2012

Performing on the night:

* Clinton Green (turntables) - Green's work (formerly working under the moniker of Undecisive God) has been a mainstay of Australian experimental music since the 1990s. Focussed for many years upon new approaches to the electric guitar as a sound generation tool, Green’s current interest is in prepared turntables as dynamic generators of random sound and percussive patterns.

 * Ernie Althoff/Clinton Green (gramophone four hands)

* Ernie Althoff - A Melbourne sound artist and pioneering instrument-maker active in Australian experimental music since the late 1970s. He is unique not only for the original textures and sonic elements he creates, often tempered with wry humour, but also for his practically continuous contribution to and participation in the Melbourne experimental music community for over three decades.

* We Are Denizens of Pluto (Ashley J Higgs - singerpoet, Richard Stringer - guitar, Nat Grant - laptop) - Described as Dark Ambient Improv or Heavy Poetry Sub Rock, Denizens have no target audience. This is their second gig, the last time was at Kings Gallery in Melbourne, when we were accompanied by a Tai Chi Master.

* Monolith (synth, drum machine, effects) - Primitive and minimalist industrial drone bleakness.

Also on the night will be a Shame File Music CD/record sale extravaganza, with all the best of Australian experimental music releases, plus a massive new shipment from US labels including XI, Pogus and Deep Listening. There will be special prices on the night and very limited copies.

Bang On A Can All Stars - Recital Centre 5 & 7 Nov 2012

New Music's rock-star ensemble, Bang On A Can All-Stars celebrate 25 years of innovation with Field Recordings & Music For Airports.
New-music mavericks, Bang On A Can borrow freely from jazz, pop, rock and classical traditions to produce sounds that are undeniably their own. In 1992, Bang on a Can All-Stars formed as a collective, united in their mission to redefine the global music scene.
Over the past 25 years they've worked with everyone from Ornette Coleman to Steve Reich.
Using film, archival audio and video in an Australian Exclusive and Premiere, Field Recordings bridges the seen and the unseen, the present and the absent, today and the past in nine new compositions by visionaries such as Christian Marclay (video artist/creator of 24-hour film The Clock) that explore what would happen if composers ventured into the field of everyday life and captured sounds to challenge their music.
Click here to listen to David Lang discuss the story behind Field Recordings.

Breathing warmth into Brian Eno’s acclaimed ambient soundscapes, Music For Airports is the epic interpretation of Eno’s iconic album of the same name. Inspired by a lay-over at Cologne Bonn Airport, Eno's album is both tranquil and transitory. Bang On A Can All-Stars recreate this iconic album with a large ensemble and choir.Click here to listen to a sneak peek of Music for Airports by Bang On A Can All-Stars.

ROUSSEMOFF + HINTERLANDT + LUNAIRE + GLASFROSCH

Join us at Collingwood's Gasometer for a diverse line-up of four bands from Melbourne and Sydney. Whether you enjoy peaceful ambiences or destructive noise, whether you adore advanced musicianship or you like your music to be rough, emotional and raw, it's all there for you in the one Thursday night.

=============================

ROUSSEMOFF is a three-piece band smelting metal down to its essentials and pouring it out like lava. Comprised of two basses and drums, they take an aggressive and
minimal approach to all things big and rumbly.

Listen: http://roussemoff.bandcamp.com/

HINTERLANDT is a Sydney-based solo act juggling numerous instruments, sounds and influences. Hinterlandt has toured internationally and released truckloads of material. The brand new album "Cartography" is out now on Laughing Outlaw Records.

LUNAIRE's music has a dreamy cinematic quality. Their first EP With the Same Smile as Those Days is out now through Bandcamp.

Gilded album launch - Gasometer - 21 Oct 2012

Perth experimental duo Gilded launch their debut album 'Terrane' as part of a national tour, playing Melbourne at Gasometer on Sunday October 21. Admission - $10.

Gilded is a new musical project featuring West Australian experimental musicians Matt Rösner and Adam Trainer. Operating around the intersections of melody and texture, movement and pause, Gilded forge a new approach to composition and sound creation that is based as much around rhythm and repetition as it is around drone and abstraction.

In support on the night are the obtuse synth-drone song forms of Regional Curse and the freeform noise experiments of Infinite Decimals.

And counterbalancing this week’s concert with tripped and psyched digital and analog electronics, the MIUC debut of Easy Dada
