"No core members" improvisation collective, featuring: anyone.

A highlight performer at Discobeans last year. Avant-garde analogue electronics from one of Australia's most meticulous sound crafters, via a modular synth about the size of a bar fridge... and other mysterious devices...

Active since 2009, with appearances on releases for local labels Vacant Valley and Iceage Productions. His sound is in a constant flux, yet a sole aim is in creating a stream of sound with a degraded metallic tinge. Sometimes cacophonous, often desolate though always foreboding; inspired by the many lost souls walking the forgotten back roads of the world.

The duo of Kevin CK Lo and Trent Brown, mashing together and mashing out all manner of fucked sounds using instruments you thought you once knew.

Endangered Sounds: an acoustic history of Brunswick - Brunswick Bowls Club - 7 Jul 2012

The project titled
Endangered Sounds: an Acoustic History of Brunswick
is the culmination of recording oral history and acoustic spatial information of the current cultural and the physical landscape of Brunswick.
Due to Planning Zoning changes in Brunswick, the impending increased density of residential development will displace the current industry/ large volume work places. This project has required personal engagement with buildings, the owners and workers allowing them and their buildings to have a voice before they are rendered silent.

But the aim of this project is to allow these sounds of the people, the machines and the architecture to be made available now, but for the future generations using the technology of today. Thus the use of augmented reality software will allow geolocative stories to be found at these Locations now and into the future.
Join me for the Launch of the Website and Augmented Reality (AR) experience to be held at the
104 Victoria St, Brunswick East, on the Saturday 7th July 2012 at 2pm.

Trevor Watts and Veryan Weston @ Bennetts Lane, Sunday June 17th

This Sunday, two legends of the Brittish wing of the late-60s European Free Jazz/Free Improv revolution are performing at Bennetts Lane in Melbourne.

Trevor Watts (saxophone) & Veryan Weston (piano), were pioneers of abstracted, jazz-based free improvisation in the UK, amongst the likes of their contemporaries, Derek Baily, Evan Parker, Paul Rutherford, John Stevens and John Butcher, and with the pioneering Spontaneous Music Ensemble.

Should be pretty amazing.

Evening Soundwalks return after their hugely popular debut at the 2011 Festival. This year, join celebrated landscape architect and acoustic ecologist Anthony Magen and The Australian Forum for Acoustic Ecology to search for Melbourne’s hidden voice amongst its streets, laneways and secret spaces, tracing a different path through the CBD each time.
With the simple rule of ‘no communication’, just listening and walking, you’ll soon become attuned to the subtle soundscape of the city and gain a new perspective on the acoustic environment that surrounds us.

New Ernie Althoff & more on Shame File Music

New on Shame File Music

Ernie Althoff "Moggs Creek Picnic Ground" CD - Showcasing for the first time Althoff's field recording work, this single-take, unedited 70 minute recording (divided into 70x 1 minute tracks) was made by Althoff in 2004 at the titular picnic ground in the Otway Ranges, Western Victoria. It captures near-magical interactions between a plethora of birdlife against a backdrop of windblown eucalyptus trees. Althoff describes the session’s highlight in the liner notes:

... a magpie making repeated short and plaintive calls from various points in the bush as it approaches the picnic ground. Small variations occur in the call's structure as well. In the 50th minute the magpie flies into the clearing with strongly audible wingbeats. It calls plaintively some more. Then it flies to a tree in front of the microphones and warbles beautifully before returning to its previous short calls. Finally the magpie departs, flying strongly to the left to exit.

Moggs Creek is sublime listening as either ambient soundscape or for those interested in native bird song. - AU$12ppd
Undecisive God "RPMs 5,6,7" CD - This series of compositions for prepared turntables continues with three pieces that feature unplugged acoustic turntables, empty turntables and a live multi-performer recording featuring 6 turntables. Rounded out with an abrasive live cut. The liners also contain Green's ruminations on the evolution of his turntable project (limited edition of 100 copies). - AU$10ppd

Em Vecue Aquieu "Lightlike" cassette - Minimal and just-subtle-enough ambience, channelling Angelo Badalamenti via gentle synth lines, guitar and field recordings. Limited edition of 50 handnumbered copies, with transparent transparent "stained glass" cover, including download card - AU$8ppd

Sam Pettigrew "Domestic Smear" CD - Pettigrew places metals, plastics, vibrators and other objects on and between the strings of his double bass to create three otherworldly statements in sound and texture. - AU$10ppd

Alex White "Genuine Instability" CD - A series of alternating minimal/maximal yet complex drones and oscillations, combined at various frequencies to explore a range of dynamics and textures. AU$10ppd
Justice Yeldham - Picture Disc 12" - Live and studio recordings of contact mic'd glass being blown and chewed on, with full colour bloody images on each side - $25ppd

Back in stock:
