Felix Werder 24-2-1922 — 3-5-2012

A giant of Australian modernist music, Felix Werder, passed away last week at the age of 90.

Along with Margaret Sutherland and Dorian Le Gallienne, Werder was responsible for introducing and establishing a New Music scene in Melbourne in the 1950s, and continued to be a staunch supporter of New Music throughout his life, as a composer, teacher, mentor, and critic.

A concert of Werder's music was held in February to celebrate his 90th birthday, with the composer in attendance.

An obituary written by Warren Burt appeared today in The Age, where Werder was a music critic for many years.
