Bum Creek - Polyester Instore - 8 Oct 2010

BUM CREEK - POLYESTER INSTORE
On Friday October 8, just a day before the official release of their vinyl-only LP AL, and a day before they play a sold out show at the Forum Theatre with Japanese experimental icons the Boredoms, you can catch crazy-ass former Canberra trio Bum Creek playing a special instore at Polyester Records' city store.
The head-squiggling improvised masterwork AL will be available at the instore, so you can be one of the first kids on your block to own a copy of the beautifully-presented vinyl album. It comes complete with amazing cover art from the band's own Trev Clay, and also a download card with each copy so you can also own the album on the information superhighway.
The full details are as follows:

GNAUMGN free releases

Melbourne experimental duo GNAUMGN play the MIUC in a fortnight (October 12th, 2010). Folks who saw them ripping up Stutter a month or so ago know what to expect, but the rest of you may be interested in acquiring some (or all) of their releases before they hit MIUC. Somewhere between Supersilent, Musica Transonic, and Abruptum, each of their releases is different, yet remains true to the same DIY core of blackened abstract free-noise-noir. They have many free releases: for the sake of brevity, here are 3.

Abre Ojos - Root Chakra

Root from abre ojos on Vimeo.

This is the first part of the next project based on the chakras.

The root chakra is located in the perineum at the base of our spine, it is represented by a large cube, it governs our adrenal glands and it’s primary colour is red. Our root chakra is just like the roots of our tree, it roots us to the earth, it can give us patience, structure, stability and security as well as the ability to help us manifest our dreams. From us it asks us to notice beauty and perfection in the world and to do stuff with our legs and feet.

To connect with your root chakra know that you are truly good, that you live from your integrity and have the right to live the life you choose.

  • FILMBASE (Superflux - France)
Lionel palun (video) & Riojim (16mm films)
    http://vimeo.com/11900797
Filmbase is a video vs cinema 16 mm live improvisation.
In a genuine gesture of instrumentist, Filmbase develops a set of rythm and texture research, visual and sound compositions, which gives enter to a new substance...
Lionel Palun defined is work as electro-video. In Filmbase he does not use prepared image, he refilm ligth sent by Riojim. From the software he has developed, he worked in direct image by filtering feedback, delay and movements. Riojim feeds the equation with his 16 mm films projections. Images are shot and processed at Atelier MTK, a cinema laboratory for artists.
    http://www.lionelpalun.com/superflux/

Superflux
Superflux gather together four improvisers from Grenoble, France who are involved in experimental film, video and sound making for 15 years. Gaëlle Rouard, Lionel Palun, Richarles Bronson and Riojim have been members of the programming team at the 102, a venue dedicated to experimental arts, hosting most of the foremost improvisers of new music. It is natural that their art culture and sensibility turn them toward the practice of improvisation that they understand as a quick and profound reaction to events where each performance is constructed for a particular time and place. Citing Jim Denley, these artists also believe that exploring the moment of creation - when an idea, feeling or gesture is first expressed - is to take part in the most exciting adventure possible, not only for the artist but also for the audience! Gaëlle Rouard and Riojim run the Atelier MTK, a cinema processing facility open to artists who want to experience all the possibilities that film medium have to offer.

  • JEAN POOLE
Jean Poole likes to mix live: visual abstractions, music, filmed snippets, lo-fi animation, voices in dialogue.
His AV set at Stutter will include: compost worms, accordians, winged beasts, plant silhouettes and monkey graffiti.

Tuesday September 28th and October 5th @ the Make It Up Club

For our annual Melbourne Fringe Festival presentation, the Make It Up Club is focusing exclusively on percussion. Over 2 successive Tuesdays, some of the city's most adventurous improvisers (spanning the worlds of avant classical, grindcore, sound art, free jazz, and art-punk), will push the rhythmic and timbral potential of the membraphone to extremes. Headlining each concert, a special exploration of current trends in realtime drumkit processing, with two titans of the experimental scene, Robin Fox and Robbie Avenaim, head to head on the 28th, and British code-ninja Ollie Bown (Icarus) manipulating grindcore powerhouse Max Kohane (AoA, Pivixki) on the 5th. The rest of the program includes large group collaborations, including a quartet comprising four of the most exciting emerging percussionists from the avant classical and free improv milieu, comprising James McLean, Nat Grant, Gareth Thomson and Matthias Schack-Arnott. And a quartet featuring 4 of the boldest women drummers in the art and punk scenes at the moment: Bianca Hester (The French, Paeces), Maya-Victoria (Occult Blood), Jen Tait (GoGenreEverything) and Harriet Morgan (ZOND, Wasted Truth). Solos that span the sonic spectrum from Riki-Metisse Marlow's aleatoric sound sculptures, and Joe Talia's (Wirewalker) expansive cymbals and drums to the blastasfuck onslaught of Brad Smith (Super Fun Happy Slide, Holy Boner). And a duo featuring two of Australia's most respected percussive explorers from the traditions of free improv and avant classical: Sean Baxter (Pateras/Baxter/Brown, Embers) and Eugene Ughetti (SPEAK Percussion). GIVE THE DRUMMER SOME!!!

  • BEN BYRNE - Signals, mixer, computer and other electronics.
Ben Byrne’s solo performances of visceral improvisation focus on the relationship between the musician and his equipment as it plays out in any given space and ask the audience to chart their own path as the music constantly emerges from and disappears into a mess of signals, actions and noise.
