Final Sabbatical Presents 21.01.10

Thursday 21 January 2010 Sabbatical presents our final ever regular monthly night at the Old Bar (74-76 Johnston Street Fitzroy). To mark this occasion we have assembled a lineup perfectly suited to a balmy evening of beer swilling and shit talk. Opening is MV (Maya Victoria) a London - Melbourne transplant and recent collaborator with local scum clan Occult Blood. Low end / low life tape junk. Melbourne improvisation advocate and percussion legend Sean Baxter follows with his extensive arsenal of metallic junk and other percussive detritus. Ethic Cleansing is a new collaboration between two of Melbourne’s genuinely nasty sonic entities: Screwtape and Ebola Disco. This debut death industrial-inspired live outing promises to be an ideal accompaniment to the copious consumption of alcohol and an indulgence in black humour. Closing the night will be the almighty violent Melbourne grind trio Agents of Abhorrence. These gentlemen are true masters of concision and batter - a perfect end to our tenure at the Old Bar. Cheers.

Soundbytes Sunday Summer Session

“The Soundbytes Sunday Summer Session” is taking place on the 24th of Jan (The Sunday before Australia day) from 3pm, with an outdoor beer garden gig (with PLENTY of shelter in case it rains!) at The Penny Black (formerly Don’t Tell Tom) on Sydney Road in Brunswick.

We have a killer lineup, with headliner Marc Nostromo who is coming all the way from Belgium to play the show. Marc is something of a legend in chipmusic circles, having not only played around the world, including the biggest Chip festival in the world – Blipfest; but is also the creator of LittleGPTracker (AKA Piggy tracker). Check him out on his myspace at www.myspace.com/discodirt

Backing him up, we have some of Australia’s greatest chip musicians with 10K Free Men & Their Families performing his first Soundbytes show in over 6 months, as well as Maddest Kings Alive and Derris-Kharlan.

Last but not least, with enough interest we’re looking at running an open mic to kickstart the afternoon, so if you’re keen to show what you’ve got, send us an email at dpadproductions@gmail.com or send a message to the organizer to let us know how many tracks you want to play and what you’re using (maximum of two tracks per person for open mic and needs to be minimal set up time)

The Penny Black has some great food and drink prices, and is easily accessible on public transport, so bring your mates and enjoy some of Australia’s greatest chip muso’s for a sunny Summer afternoon with Soundbytes!
