Undue Noise - sound and video art from Bendigo and Castlemaine

Undue Noise, founded in 2002, is a collective of a Central Victorian sound and video artists who organise regular experimental gigs in Bendigo and Castlemaine. Tonight's 4 acts feature some of its most active members.

  • DOUBLEOTHER - Doubleother are Justin Bull (guitar) and Simon Howard (computer sounds and video). Half of improv group Planetcaravan = the whole of Doubleother. Overdue regulars in Bendigo's undue noise. Languishing somewhere between the pub and some gallery.

  • PAUL FLETCHER - A video/animation & sound artist, interested in experimental relationships between narrative, sound and animated motion, Paul works collaboratively with multi-discipline Central Victorian live art collective Punctum, and Undue Noise as well as individual film and live performance projects, including the invention of custom built audiovisual instruments. A former member of Essendon Airport and Tsk, Tsk, Tsk. Paul will present a live video and sound improvisatory film, ''Sonic Island'' - an island made of sound. An island as a metaphor for a state of isolation. An isolated state buffeted and caressed by gentle waves.

  • FORCE FED SMILE - Treated loops that try to become song's yet fail in the attempt and become a psychedelic dreamscape. Sounds by Tim Townsend.

  • JACQUES SODDELL - Bendigo-based electroacoustic composer working with treated field recordings, and sometimes video. He founded Undue Noise in 2002, runs experimental label Cajid Media, is actively involved in live arts group Punctum, and since 1983 has presented an experimental music program, Possible Musics, on Bendigo community radio.
