This Wednesday the 2nd of September @ Stutter...

Stutter & Ox Party presents a headline show for HAWNAY TROOF, the solo project of San Francisco's noisenik, Vice Cooler (of xBxRx, & Kit). Under this pseudonym, Vice creates ''in-the-red'' sweaty club jams that restores ''art and sound to their primary and vital function; a connection into the natural world''.

His recent album, Island of Ayle, pushes ''electronic dance music further down a trail that it has lately avoided: completely fucked pop music'' and features guests Randy Randall (of No Age), Mary Pearson (of High Places), Bretzel Goring (of Stereo Total), Annie Lewandowski (of The Curtains), Jenny Hoyston (of Erase Errata), Jamie Stewart (of Xiu Xiu), and Carla Bozulich (of Evangelista).

When not performing under one of his many aliases, Vice Cooler tours as the live drummer for The Raincoats and Chicks on Speed.

David Chesworth Ensemble - Recital Centre - 19 Sept 2009

forwarded from David Chesworth:
--------------------------

Just letting you know about a concert of all new work by David Chesworth Ensemble. You may
not have seen us around for a while but we’ve certainly been busy in the last couple of years including performances in the UK, Paris, Sydney and Brisbane. Plus all the players have been busy on projects that have taken them far and wide.

We’ve grown in size too, becoming an eleven piece ensemble.

David Chesworth – electronics, Andrea Keeble – violin, Michelle John – cello,
Jeremy Alsop – bass, John McAll – piano, Simon Myers – trombone,
Peter Neville – percussion, Eugene Ughetti – percussion
and welcoming Robert Goodge – guitars, Joanne Kuluveovski - vocals,
and Melissa Webb - vocals, taisho koto, khaen

This year we’ve been working on a new full-length work Vanishing Tekopia which is scored for voice and a large ensemble of instruments and electronics (including the taishogoto, a Japanese harp). The unique sonorous textures of the ensemble, richer still with the added instrumental colours, create driving themes and polyrhythms in seductive settings of Ursonate-like word songs.

The Salon at Melbourne Recital Centre has limited seating so get in early if you’d like to catch us.

This Wednesday the 19th of August @ Stutter...

  • NOMEX(UK/NZ) - Nomex is the pseudonym of Paul Kidd, under which he has been performing and releasing audio and video works for many years. Nomex has performed in many diverse locations around the world, from the ICA in London to the squatted galleries of East Berlin, from huge outdoor festivals in France to the trash bars of Milwaukee, from the Red Factory in Switzerland to the Link in Bologna, from the Parisian catacombs to the established art spaces of Holland. His uncompromising approach to 'concrete sound' has brought him to be on the same bill as Pan Sonic / Sudden Infant / Mego / Bruce Gilbert / Disinformation etc. He even was mentioned in the Rough Guide to Drum and Bass as an influence on the developing Breakcore scene through his bizarre turntablism and various self built drill turntables. Paul/Nomex is currently residing in New Zealand.
  • ANTHEA CADDY / THEMBI SODDELL - Bringing together the textural and dynamic capabilities of the cello, with an extensive palate of sampled and abstracted found sounds, this collaboration between Australian sound artists Anthea Caddy and Thembi Soddell generates a provocative and tense sonic world. They will be touring Europe again very soon so this will be their last duo performance in Melbourne for 2009.
  • XIAN -
1 cup of fresh ghetto funk
    2 tbs of salt
1 tbs of live Vietnamese Раn tranh
    16 wooden bridges
    copper stings
chuck in a couple of snare drums & cliche speed metal riffs to taste
