LAN Party, Dive Into Ruin, Combover & mousetrapreplica play the Evelyn Saturday 28 February

LAN Party:(11:45pm)
an Party formed in the dark summer of 2004 and have since disturbed, enticed and had rough awkward sex with unassuming Melbourne audiences, whether they liked it or not. Their amalgam of uncouth yet strangely eclectic styles is viciously woven together with a violent psaz , not dissimilar to a junkie up to his eyeballs on meth refashioning a quilt behind the helm of Bernina 530 sewing machine. The group's debut long player Apology Unaccepted contains guest features from Melbourne guitar virtuoso Tim Mcmillan, as well as Bar Mckinnon (Mr.Bungle , Secret Chiefs Three).

Dive Into Ruin(10:45pm):

"It's high-octane, tongue-in-cheek, riff-laden rock with a sound somewhere between Helmet and Dick Dale..."

They are rad. See them play.

Combover are a raucous, yet polite and incredibly well nourished pack of jerks whose unhinged stage antics and bizarre sounds have delivered a short and sharp eclectic shock to the Melbourne underground music scene. Their goal? Blurring genre lines by borrowing furiously from as many different and contrasting styles as possible. Best described as experimental and wildly creative, Combover have a solid grounding in Dadaist grindcore and avant-jazz, with multi-stylistic hiccups into bent reggae, Latino tomfoolery, top 40 slaughter, drone-rock, no wave punk/funk, noise, classical influences, musique concrète and country n’ western. All this utilizing a basic a rock line-up augmented with unconventional instrumentation, including clarinet, bassoon, saxophones, junk percussion, tape manipulation, and prepared instruments to mold these genres into an unclassifiable mass that is truly their own.

mousetrapreplica is the project of Ryan McRobb, who performs on guitar and guitar synth.
He is joined by jazz/rock/experimental drummer Gareth Thomson, and recent addition Murray Pigdon on bass and electronics, creating an enormous sound palette that ranges between beautiful whispered subtleties to stadium shaking climaxes.

It's $10. Please come and be merry with us.

This Wednesday the 25th of February @ Stutter...

Heathen Skulls and Stutter are proud to present:

MONARCH (France) - Female fronted, funeral doom lords Monarch are set to embark on their maiden voyage of Australia. Hailing from the south of France, since 2004 Monarch have been creating ear bleeding walls of feedback via the slowest riffs. Their music ventures on drone as the tempo is slow and throbbing. Think Sunn O)) meets early Melvins and Black Sabbath.

In the middle of doing two Melbourne club shows Monarch have graciously chosen to play a special low key show for Stutter, much like Pig Destroyer did a few months back. Monarch are presenting something special that's strictly a one off.

CANDLESNUFFER / BLACK WIDOW - Candle Snuffer (Dave Brown of Embers, Pateras/Baxter/Brown, etc.) and Black Widow (Robert MacManus of Grey Daturas) have been projecting their improvised twin guitar attack on the Australian public for some time now. They recently open for, and played in Guru Guru (Germany) on their Australian Tour and are currently looking forward to their debut release.

BONNIE MERCER (Melb) / TOM HALL (Bris) - Grey Daturas' main Wah Wah axe master Bonnie Mercer and Brisbane sound artist Tom Hall have been dueling it out on an irregular basis these past months. Given the distance between these two artists when timing permits they unleash a collaboration worth documenting.

ABSOLUTEN CALFEUTRAIL - One man power electronics artist Mark Groves (White Horse, Collapsed Toilet Vietnam, TRM, etc) has been creating seriously confronting noise for some time now. Every show is like a punch to the skull, totally uncompromising extreme noise through the aid of manipulated vocals, pedals and contact mics.

DEFAULT JAMERSON - Industrial, Goth, drone, noise, sound artist Marcus Cook is for the lack of a better work, a lord in the world of analogue technology, creating mind altering sonorous brutality.

Gudrun Gut (Germany) + Mani Neumeier (Germany) play Maximum Arousal this Sunday!

Sun Feb 22, 2009
The Toff - 252 Swanston St Melbourne
Maximum Arousal presents:

Gudrun Gut’s CV is an eclectic one, spanning a wide range of media and collaborations. While still a student at the Hochschule Der Künste, Berlin (1978-84) Gut first came to prominence in the early eighties as part of a scene the media dubbed "ingenious dilettantes". A member of Mania D and an early incarnation of Einstürzende Neubauten she soon formed successful eighties all-female art rock band, "Malaria!" touring Europe and the USA. "Malaria!" is still very influential today (e.g. Peaches et al) and even reached the charts in 2001 via a "Kaltes Klares Wasser" remix by Chicks On Speed.

In the late eighties Gut was part of three women band Matador and since the early nineties Gut has been responsible for some film scores, videos and radio plays. in 1991 she started the Miasma project, an international mixed media collaboration with Myra Davies (Canada). She is the founder and owner of two influential labels Monika Enterprise and Moabit Musik with Moabit reissuing material by Malaria!, Matador, Miasma while Monika Enterprise supports young artists in the realm of new electronic/independent music (established 1997, over 50 releases to date) such as Quarks, Barbara Morgenstern, Komeit and Contriva. Gut also curates and produces live electronic media events all over Europe, featuring both her own work (as a dj/music selector) and that of other artists. Together with Thomas Fehlmann Gut hosts and co-produces Oceanclub radio, a weekly 2 hour show of "Musica Obscura" on Radio Eins, Berlin. Gudrun Gut has been a pioneering force in German underground music and this will be her first live appearance in Australia - not to be missed!

Mani Neumeier has been at the helm of Germany's legendary & influential Krautrock group Guru Guru for over 35 years. He first started in the '60s German freejazz sphere with Alexander von Schlippenbach's big band Glob Unity Orchestra (featuring Peter Brotzmann, Peter Kowald, Jaki Liebezeit & others) before switching to the well-known freak-out psychedelic rock experience Guru Guru.

Guru Guru's legendary early releases such as "UFO" document the reigning moments of this acid-destroyed-jamming Krautrock outfit, and are essential artifacts of pure thunder. Mani also recorded on classic influential 70's releases such as Harmonia's "Deluxe" + Cluster & Eno's "Begegnungen". He continues to work in Guru Guru & many other projects such as Acid Mothers Guru Guru together with Makoto Kawabata & Atsushi Tsuyama. Mani will be performing a duo with Australian guitarist Oren Ambarchi.

Gudrun Gut & Mani Neumeier - 2 legendary German artists performing on the same night at the Toff promises to be an unforgettable experience - be there!!!

Sun Feb 15 8pm
The Toff 252 Swanston St Melbourne
Maximum Arousal presents:

Damo Suzuki returns to Melbourne to play at the Toff on Sunday February 15!

While busking outside a cafe in Munich in May of 1970, Damo was discovered by Can members Holger Czukay and Jaki Liebezeit; asked to replace the group's former frontman Malcolm Mooney. With Suzuki in the lineup, Can produced its most enduring and innovative work. He left the band to become a Jehovah's Witness. Absent from music for a decade, he returned to music in 1983, and currently leads what is known as Damo Suzuki's Network - as he tours, he performs live improvisational music with various local musicians (so-called "Sound Carriers") from around the world, thus building up a 'network' of musicians that he has and can collaborate with. The Sound Carrieres for this show will be Sydney band The Holy Soul. Also appearing London-based garage rockers The Kits.
