Ligeti's Poeme Symphonique - South Melbourne Town Hall - 30 Oct 2009

from Australian National Acadamy of Music:
-------------------------

Only 24 metronomes to go

The Australian National Academy of Music needs only another 24 metronomes for the special performance of Ligeti’s Poème Symphonique for 100 metronomes on Friday 30 October at 1pm.

So far the Academy has received 76 metronomes, some of which have been hand delivered while others that have come through the post.

One of the lenders has said that her metronome leads a dull life and is very excited about this opportunity to appear in public.

All metronomes on loan will be stars in this special performance.

Rarely performed, Ligeti’s Poème Symphonique for 100 metronomes is prepared by ten players under the guidance of a conductor.

Each of the 100 metronomes will be set up on the stage, and then they all will be wound to a set maximum and at different speeds. Once they are all fully wound and started simultaneously, the audience enters the Town Hall for this unique performance experience.

As the metronomes wind down one after another and stop, individual metronomes are more audible and the performance will end when the last metronome stopped ticking.

If you are able to lend your metronome and make this performance come to life, please call the Australian National Academy of Music on 9645 7911.

Ligeti Poème Symphonique for 100 metronomes will be performed as part of the Haydn & Ligeti series on Friday 30 October, 1pm at the Australian National Academy of Music, Sth Melbourne Town Hall. Tickets: Donation
